A teacher has one hundred and eighty days each year to make a positive impact on a group of children. Each teacher has a different method of making their impact, but my method centers around motivating students. I believe that the first step to get any student invested in their education is to inspire them and allow them to see the real world in the classroom. I believe that what students are learning in school needs to have a natural flow into what they want their life to look like after graduation. Teaching students to read and write are arguably the most important intentional things that we teach students to do in school. I want to take these skills and make them important to students and make them realize the intricate role these skills will play in their lives. I believe that literature can open doors for kids and allows kids to develop empathy. Reading also makes kids smarter and keeps their brains sharp as they get older. Reading and writing also empowers us to follow our dreams and become who we want to be in the future. A middle school classroom is where we can hook kids into amazing literature that will make them readers for the rest of their lives.
